By engaging our children in regular fitness experiences with positive role-models, they will have the opportunity to experience a healthy life today and tomorrow.
According to the Office of the Surgeon General overweight children and adolescents are 80 percent more likely to become heavyset adults. The implications for hypertension and early heart attack along with a variety of diseases and negative quality of life issues are a compelling reason to concern ourselves with our childrens future right now. In fact, the Center for Disease Control predicts that this generation of children will be the first in history to have a shorter life expectancy than their parents. It is our mission to prove them wrong.
The CHAMPIONS program is committed to combating childhood obesity by partnering with schools, school districts, medical and health associations, and other local, regional and state partners to provide opportunities for children to participate in high-quality physical fitness programming. Delivered through community-based partnerships, our initiatives promote and encourage lifestyles that include regular daily activity and healthy life choices that pave the way for long and satisfying lives.
